More appliance brands signal price increases

KBB REVIEW. A number of appliance suppliers have revealed they will be increasing prices in the New Year.

Liebherr, which previously bucked the trend when the majority of suppliers increased prices a year ago, has admitted that it has had to raise its prices because of the devaluation of the pound against the euro.

The price increase will come into effect as of January 2018.

Liebherr UK divisional manager Tim Hutchinson said: “I have held the pricing for UK sales since we started this business in December 2014.

“The reason [for the price increase] is due to devaluation of the pound against the euro, which we at Liebherr have swallowed by as much as 20%.

“There will be an average increase of less than 10%, which is significantly less than the market generally and only partly reflects our increase in costs of product, transport, fuel and inflation.”

Earlier this year, BSH increased its prices effective as of September, which affected its Bosch, Neff and Siemens brands. However, a spokesperson said it was unable to confirm how much the increase was in all cases.

In a statement, BSH said: “All retailers were informed in a timely manner in the summer.”

Whirlpool has been rumoured to be increasing its prices in the New Year, but when contacted by kbbreview for comment, a statement from Whirlpool UK Appliances said: “It is not our policy to publicly comment on our pricing strategy with our trade partners.”

Electrolux and Miele are also rumoured to be increasing their prices, but have yet to comment.
